31 Dec 2008

A review of Compaq Presario CQ50-209WM Laptop

Compaq Presario CQ50-209WM Notebook was recently available at walmart on a recent year end sale for $398. Those who took it - know that this has been a good bargain. However it has Intel Celeron Processor in place of the Core 2 Duo. This means that the processor is not very good if you want to do something more that internet surfing and word editing. It still is a good bargain for $398.

Processor

The Fujitsu Lifebook A1110 has a the Intel Celeron at 2.16 GHz. At this speed, it is just good enough for most of the normal worksincluding internet surfing and word proceedsing. However, if you are a programmer who need to compile a lot of software code, you would like to see processor with better performance. For a little extra cost you should be able to get core 2 duo processor.

Memory

The base Compaq Presario comes with 2 GBytes of memory. That is a fairly decent amount of memory for normal work. You may however upgrade it to 3 GB if required.

Battery Life

The notebook has 6 Cell Li Ion Battery. The battery life has not been checked. From Specifications it looks like it will last 2 and a half hours.

Screen

Compaq Presario CQ50-209WM has 15.4 inch WXGA High-Definition display that looks great for viewing movie at 1280 x 800 native resolution.

Pros

* Inexpensive

Cons

* Intel Celeron Processor

Final Thought

This notebook is good if you want an inexpensive notebook with HP brand.It has Intel Celeron processor which ok but not excellent. I will suggest you to take a look at other core 2 Duo based notebooks at potentially slightly extra price.
